Angel Haze, Classick, 2012 // First off there’s the beats that Angel Haze chose to use, ranging from classics to new-era hits. Against all of these she places her unique outlook. “Bitch Bad” takes on a new menace while staying true to the originals message, but somehow doing it better. Then she goes old school with “Gossip Folks”. By the time she steps onto Lauren Hill’s “Doo Wop (That Thing)” we’re already hooked. As a finale she transforms Eminem’s “Cleaning Out My Closet” into a tale of sexual abuse at the hands of various men and how she’s overcome it all, cleaning out her metaphorical closet. While you’re listening your breath stops; this kind of thing is horrible. That an artist would put all that forward is admirable, especially when she’s such a strong woman, showing that one can overcome anything with enough strength. Definitely a fun and engaging EP.
